RM3 million green project to enhance KLIA’s image for VM2026

SEPANG: The Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) has approved a RM3 million budget for a green landscape initiative at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and its vicinity.

The project, managed by the National Landscape Department (JLN), aims to elevate Malaysia’s global image ahead of Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026).

Minister Nga Kor Ming stated that the upgrades, set for completion by December 2024, will improve aesthetics and comfort for travellers.

“This project reinforces KLIA’s role as the nation’s premier gateway, showcasing Malaysia’s cultural harmony and environmental commitment,“ he said during a press conference.

The development will focus on Terminals 1 and 2, covering departure and arrival halls, as well as key access roads.

JLN’s in-house architects will collaborate with Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) to integrate a ‘Harmony in Diversity’ theme, blending architectural, cultural, and natural elements.

Vertical landscaping and multilingual entrance statements in Malay, English, Chinese, and Tamil will highlight Malaysia’s multicultural identity.

Nga emphasised that the initiative aligns with broader efforts to create sustainable, livable public spaces.

Deputy Minister Datuk Aiman Athirah Sabu, JLN director-general Mansor Mohamad, and MAHB managing director Datuk Mohd Izani Ghani were also present at the announcement. – Bernama
