Mais \u00e0 la fin des ann\u00e9es 1980, l\u2019\u00e9volution des usages, notamment la g\u00e9n\u00e9ralisation de la voiture et l\u2019augmentation du trafic, impose d\u2019adapter les navires aux nouvelles exigences de la continuit\u00e9 territoriale.<\/p>\n<p>C\u2019est ainsi qu\u2019intervient une op\u00e9ration impressionnante appel\u00e9e \u00ab\u00a0jumbo\u00efsation\u00a0\u00bb.<\/p>\n<p>Mot qui m\u2019\u00e9tait jusque-l\u00e0 inconnu. Le principe est simple en apparence\u00a0: couper le navire en deux pour y ins\u00e9rer une section suppl\u00e9mentaire.<\/p>\n<p><b>540 000 heures de travail<\/b><\/p>\n<p>\u00c0 Marseille, le <i>Cyrnos<\/i> est rallong\u00e9 de 22 m\u00e8tres, une transformation qui mobilise pr\u00e8s de 540\u00a0000\u00a0heures de travail, notamment par la Compagnie marseillaise de r\u00e9paration (CMR). Une v\u00e9ritable prouesse technique qui illustre combien la r\u00e9paration navale pouvait aussi relever de la construction \u00e0 part enti\u00e8re.<\/p>\n<p>Devenu <i>L\u2019\u00cele de Beaut\u00e9<\/i>, le navire gagne en capacit\u00e9, pouvant accueillir 80\u00a0v\u00e9hicules suppl\u00e9mentaires, et offre un meilleur confort aux passagers gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 des am\u00e9nagements modernis\u00e9s. Il poursuivra ainsi sa mission entre Marseille et la Corse jusqu\u2019en 2001, avant de naviguer vers d\u2019autres horizons, notamment le Maghreb, jusqu\u2019en 2013.<\/p>\n<p>Au-del\u00e0 de l\u2019anecdote, cette transformation raconte une part de l\u2019histoire industrielle de Marseille et de son lien avec la Corse. Elle rappelle aussi l\u2019importance d\u2019un service public maritime adapt\u00e9 aux besoins des populations.
