Il fait des mesures excellentes sur des exoplan\u00e8tes orbitant tr\u00e8s pr\u00e8s de leur \u00e9toile, ou tr\u00e8s loin. Entre les deux, c\u2019est plus difficile. Or, c\u2019est l\u00e0 que les exoplan\u00e8tes sont les plus int\u00e9ressantes car plus semblables \u00e0 celles de notre syst\u00e8me solaire. Le VLTI comble ce vide.<\/p>\n<p><b>Vous revenez du Chili o\u00f9 vous avez install\u00e9 sur le VLTI une version am\u00e9lior\u00e9e de l\u2019instrument Gravity.<br \/>Que va-t-elle permettre ?<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>F.M. :<\/b> Avec Gravity+, nous pourrons distinguer les isotopes du carbone dans l\u2019atmosph\u00e8re des exoplan\u00e8tes. C\u2019est-\u00e0-dire savoir combien d\u2019atomes de carbone ont douze ou treize neutrons dans leur noyau. C\u2019est important pour conna\u00eetre la composition initiale du nuage de gaz et de poussi\u00e8re \u00e0 l\u2019origine de la plan\u00e8te. Nous vivons une p\u00e9riode exaltante au VLTI car les instruments atteignent une maturit\u00e9 particuli\u00e8rement int\u00e9ressante. Ils permettent de faire ce qui sera possible d\u2019ici 5 ou 10\u00a0ans avec l\u2019Extremely Large Telescope (ELT).<\/p>\n<p><b>Dans ce cas, quel sera l\u2019int\u00e9r\u00eat de l\u2019ELT ? <\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>F.M. : <\/b>Son miroir de 39\u00a0m\u00e8tres de diam\u00e8tre offrira une sensibilit\u00e9 extr\u00eame permettant d\u2019observer des objets 10 000 fois moins lumineux que ce que permet aujourd\u2019hui le VLTI.
